Fujairah Masterplan - preliminary Study

the project is about a preliminary study, commissioned by the government of the "emirate of fujairah" in 2009.

Fujairah has a unique advantage within the Area of the United Arab Emirates. As most of the other Emirates must depend in the future on the quality of their sea- and beachareas, which is partly in contradiction to the values of the society in the UAE,  Fujairah has a wide field of nature to offer.  Mountains,  Wadis,  Sea and Beaches.  This combination enables the Emirate to develop an economy which is based on this fact and which can use this resources for a healthy and wealthy development in the future. the study is focusing on a development which is highly sustainable. Economy and Industry are part of this approach by setting up benchmarks and requirements economical developments have to be related to.

Part of the study was the research on stresses and existing natural resources which then had been taken into consideration for further suggestions based on these perception.

The emirate was divided into several, functional sectors which will thrive the development in the future.
- Sector 1     residential
- Sector 2     industry and transportation
- Sector 3     leisure and tourism
- sector 4     government and public administration
- sector 5     service

These sectors are spread and interconnected across the emirate.

The masterplan will be based on a technique using independently clusters/sectors in general. Those clusters are connected with infrastructural features, the distinction between them happens by intensive natural units. Those clusters are programatically defined, intersection takes partly place. The result is independent and autarchic.
To quantify the needs of the area, while avoiding over-complexity, internal functions have to be  studied.  The result of this studies will lead to  potential sectors. With this result the description of the parameters and necessary masses can be described. All the sectors will be carefully positioned and detailed in a series following the hierarchy of demand for space and air. the sector with the highest needs will lead and determine the masterplan.
